Elkhart man sentenced to 76 years for kidnapping, beating Army veteran

Elkhart, Ind. After robbing, kidnapping and beating a 68-year-old Army veteran, Tyrone Winkleman will spend 76 years in prison.

Winkleman, 34, was sentenced Thursday morning at Elkhart Circuit Court. His maximum possible sentence was 150 years.

Winkleman faked a seizure last July outside the Budget Inn in Elkhart to attract the attention of the man.

He then kidnapped him, drove him to an ATM, and forced him to withdraw money. The victim testified at Winkleman's trial.

Winkleman is also a suspect in a separate robbery that same day at an Elkhart salon. He's accused of threatening an employee and customer with a knife, and taking money from their purses.
