A semi driver has been transported to the Memorial Trauma Center following a rollover near the bypass.
It happened on Monday at the intersection of Brick and Cleveland roads near the US 31 ramp. South Bend Police Captain Phil Trent, tells Newscenter 16 the semi was exiting the bypass when the load apparently improperly shifted causing the truck to roll.
Initially, there were reports of entrapment, but rescuers were able to remove the driver from the vehicle without trouble. Now, the driver is being treated at the Memorial Trauma Center for neck and back pain.
All lanes of traffic are closed on Brick Road as crews work to remove the semi from the scene. The semi used diesel fuel, which is flammable. Responders are still trying to contain the area for safety purposes.
A fuel coil is also causing problems. Pressure from the truck could be dangerous for those trying to remove it.
Newscenter 16 has a crew on scene and will bring more details as they become available.
