Elkhart Co. An initiative that grows food for hungry families is experiencing a bumper crop this year.
The Seed to Feed program harvested more than 35,000 pounds of potatoes this past Wednesday in Elkhart County.
That was the result of a day of work by 130 middle school students from St. Thomas school.
The mounds of food will be donated to food banks across the country. But so far, only half the field has been harvested.
Seed to Feed is now asking for more volunteers to come out and help harvest the rest.
They'll need your help in the field this Wednesday and Thursday from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
The field is just south of Middlebury, on the west side of State Road 13, one-half mile north of State Road 4
Seed to Feed is in its second year; their harvest last year totaled 26,000 pounds of produce.
