BERLIN TOWNSHIP, Mich. Authorities in southeastern Michigan have recovered the body of a 36-year-old man who disappeared after jumping into the water to save an 8-year-old boy.

Monroe County sheriff's Sgt. Brian Angerer say searchers found the body in Lake Erie off Estral Beach about 2:25 p.m. Saturday.

Sheriff Dale Malone says a woman called 911 Wednesday evening, saying her boyfriend and son were in the water off the beach in Berlin Township, about 30 miles northeast of Toledo, Ohio.

Malone says the couple and boys ages 3 and 8 were on an unanchored boat. They're from Oakland County's Waterford Township.

He says the 8-year-old wore a life jacket and jumped into the water but couldn't return to the boat.

Malone says the man wasn't wearing a jacket. His name hasn't been released.
