UPDATE: Search for missing Granger doctor now recovery mission

VAIL, Colo.--- The Eagle Co. Sheriff's Department says the search for missing Granger doctor James McGrogan has shifted to a recovery mission.

Poor weather previously forced them to suspend their search for McGrogan, who went missing while hiking through the Colorado backcountry.

The 39-year-old hasn't been seen since he went ahead of his hiking group on Friday morning. He never showed up at the hut where they were supposed to meet up.

McGrogan had a large pack with food, water, medical supplies, a GPS and other tools.

In a statement, the Eagle Co. Sheriff's Department said, "The thoughts and prayers of the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office and Vail Mountain Rescue Group go out to the McGrogan family."

McGrogan started working at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka in February.
