Elkhart, Ind. It is Constitution Week, and a group of fifth graders in Elkhart got a special visit from someone who uses the constitution on a daily basis.
Judge Stephen Bowers visited the students at Eastwood Elementary School. After his presentation, he took a multitude of questions from the kids. His goal was to share the history of the constitution, and to break it down in terms that the kids could understand.
“These children are going to be appearing in my courtroom over the next couple of years and it is really important that they understand how our court system works,” says Judge Stephen Bowers with the Elkhart Superior Court.
“I think the kids see this in a real world sense how does he use it on a daily basis and how does that impact the lives on people in the community is tremendous,” says Kevin Beveridge the principal at Eastwood Elementary School.
The students also had a visit from Dolly Madison.
