ELKHART An employee at Concord Community Schools has been asked to resign after he brought a personal handgun into the school.

The Elkhart Truth reports that Rick Ball is a groundskeeper for the district and a reserve officer for the Elkhart County Sheriff's Department.

Indiana state law bans weapons on school property, except for law enforcement, but it is not clear whether Ball fits that definition.

The gun was left unattended in Ball's coat during a two day period last month, when students were not in school due to bad weather.
