BENTON HARBOR Smart negotiating means more money for Benton Harbor schools.
The district convinced a developer to pay five times more than what they offered for 13 lots around the old Calvin Britain Elementary School.
Harbor Hillcrest Homes originally offered $100 for each lot, but The Herald Palladium reports the district has convinced them to pay $500 a piece. The company also plans to buy Calvin Britain and Fair Plain Northeast Elementary School for a total of $200,000.
The school board will make a final decision on the sale at their meeting next Tuesday.
Harbor Hillcrest is the same company that turned the old Sterne Brunson Elementary School into apartments a few years ago.
