The leaves are turning, and that means it is time for South Bend’s ReLeaf program.
Collection will begin Monday, Oct. 28, and will run until Dec. 2. You can schedule your pick-up with the Department of Public Works by calling 311.
But before your leaves are taken away, here are some tips to remember.
Rake leaves to the curb, not onto the street, to keep from plugging drains.
Avoid parking on top or in front of leaf piles, which can make cleanup hard for collection crews.
Do not leave sticks, trash or other debris in the piles because the City will not pick them up.
Avoid raking leaves to the curb lines after crews have finished your street, because they will not return until the next scheduled day in your area.
And finally, burning your leaves is not allowed and is a violation of the city ordinance.
The City encourages residents not to bag leaves but instead to rake them to the curb line. If leaves must be bagged, it is encouraged that residents use paper bags to reduce non-biodegradable waste.
