Friends of an Elkhart teen battling cancer took their support to a national stage on Monday morning.

The group set up their Sarah Strong banner in the front row outside the studio of NBC’s Today Show. Elkhart’s Heathyr Harkless along with her friend, Nicole Ellsworth, from Fort Wayne, say their goal is to get cancer patient Sarah Crane’s name trending on Twitter right alongside Today Show hashtags. They're hoping to get the Today show's attention, so that when they had back Tuesday, they can get a live interview on the plaza.

Harkless also got to pass a Sarah Strong shirt to singer/songwriter Cee Lo Green who showed it off proudly.

According to our reporting partners at the Elkhart Truth, the trip started out as a birthday celebration for Harkless. However, it soon developed into a way to share the Sarah Strong movement.
