Saint Mary’s College moved to extend its current president’s contract another three years.
The college’s Board of Trustees announced on Monday that President Carol Ann Mooney will maintain her post until May 2016, with the possibility of further extension.
Dr. Mooney’s original contract was scheduled to expire in May 2014, and news of the extension comes on the eve of the 8th anniversary of her 2005 inauguration.
Her presidency is precedent-setting as Dr. Mooney is the first lay alumna president in Saint Mary’s history.
The board said the extension reflects their confidence in Dr. Mooney’s leadership and vision for the college, and thanked her for her years of service.
Over the past nine year’s Dr. Mooney worked toward the diversification of the student body, she helped implement a new education curriculum, and increased the number of students who participated in study abroad.
