INDIANAPOLIS (AP) Lessons from the 2011 Indiana State Fair stage collapse are now part of a new safety guide for outdoor events worldwide.
The Event Safety Alliance announced the release of the guide recently and says it provides best practices for emergency planning, weather preparedness and temporary staging, rigging and special effects.
The guide is modeled after one used in the United Kingdom. It addresses the same safety issues that emerged from the investigation into the August 2011, Indiana stage collapse that killed seven people and injured dozens more awaiting a Sugarland concert.
Survivor Jill Polet of Cincinnati tells WTHR-TV she welcomes the guidelines but thinks it is "shameful" that none existed prior to the collapse. Polet and her daughter were seriously injured, and a friend with them died.
