Two men wounded in shooting through apartment window

SOUTH BEND, Ind. Two men were taken to a local hospital Sunday evening after they were shot through the window of an apartment building in the Corby Homes area on Patty Lane in South Bend.

South Bend police say that around 6:15 p.m. Sunday at least three individuals walked up to the apartment at 1098 Patty Lane and shot through the window of a lower level apartment. Two men, who police say were both in their mid-twenties or early thirties, were struck by those bullets. Their injuries are said to be non-life-threatening.

Lt. David Newton of the South Bend Police Dept. said that at least two children were inside the apartment building when the shooting occurred. They were not injured.

Evidence technicians were on the scene to document the incident. Newton says there is at least one possible witness. Victims of this shooting are not giving any information to police at this time.

“We’re not getting much cooperation from the victims so we’re kind of behind the eight ball on that one,” said Newton.

Police believe the shooters left the scene on foot but later got into a vehicle.

Anyone with information is asked to call (574) 235-9201.
