An investigation continues after a man is stabbed several times outside of an apartment complex on the west side of South Bend.

Just before two Friday afternoon an off duty South Bend police officer found a man nearly bleeding to death, lying on the ground.

The officer was working security at the LaSalle Park Apartment Complex.

The man had been stabbed several times and was taken to Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

Captain Scott Hanley from the South Bend Police Department says, “From what we got right now it was an altercation. We don't know all the facts. We are still trying to talk to the witnesses.”

The St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit was called out to investigate. Officers interviewed and arrested a primary suspect.

The names of both the suspect and victim are being withheld at this time. No word on what type of weapon was used in the stabbing.
