Plans were unveiled today for a $2 million facelift at the Martin’s Plaza off Western Avenue in South Bend.
The improvements include a new roof and a new façade for the building, along with new signage and LED lighting.
The plaza will even be renamed as part of what was called a “comprehensive revitalization.”
The first order of business calls for tearing down the out lot building that used to house a Wendy’s restaurant.
The improvement plans were outlined today for members of the St. Joseph County Board of Zoning Appeals.
One zoning board member remarked that Western Avenue hasn’t had such a sizeable investment since K-mart came to the strip some 30 or 40 years ago.
A representative of the plaza owner said that the goal is to have the Martin’s Plaza off Western look like the Erskine shopping centers on South Bend’s south side.
The Martin's Plaza was purchase in 2009 by Denver based Western Avenue Baceline LLC.
