MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- A South Bend City Council member will make a presentation about smoking bans tonight to the Public Health and Safety Committee of the Mishawaka Common Council.

The council tabled a smoking ordinance last month. It would go a step further than Indiana's ban by prohibiting smoking in bars and private clubs.

Several council members wanted more time to discuss the idea with the city of Mishawaka and St. Joe County to see if they're interested in adopting similar rules.

South Bend bar owners now want the proposal to be withdrawn.

Gavin Ferlic is the main sponsor of the bill and will meet with Mishawaka and county officials Tuesday at 6 p.m.
