South Bend, Ind. A South Bend businessman did a little bit of “show and tell" on Wednesday.
Mark Tarner spends most of his time running the South Bend Chocolate Company.
But he also has a pretty interesting side job of digging up dinosaurs.
Thanks to his unique hobby, he helped make a very rare discovery earlier this summer in Montana.
Tarner was part of a team that unearthed what's believed to be a rare duckbill dinosaur, only the fourth ever found with substantial skin.
There's still a lot left to excavate.
But on Wednesday, he brought a four-foot section of the tail to display right here in South Bend, a place he hopes the dinosaur will eventually end up for good.
“I doubt we're going to be able to keep it in south bend because of the significance and the cost probably of preserving it, but I'd like to keep it in here, in town, because people would come and see it and it would help our community and really put us on the map,” Tarner explained.
He is now planning a trip to DC to meet with experts at the Smithsonian and hopes the excavation process will be completed by early next summer.
