Ribbon cutting held to show renovations of the Rushton Apartment Building

South Bend, Ind. As plans to renovate the LaSalle Hotel went public, ceremonies parked the completion of work to fix up the Rushton Apartment Building

The Rushton was built in 1906 but sat unoccupied since the 1990's. A ribbon cutting Tuesday marked the end of a $2 million renovation project.

The Rushton now houses 23 senior citizen apartments. The first 10 residents will move in by the end of this month.

“These are seniors most of them on fixed incomes, some retired some still working, you know rents are anywhere from $400 to $650 a month it's an all-electric building,” says Marco Mariani with South Bend Heritage. “We really think it's a great location close to health care facilities, and great for shopping downtown.
