Benton Harbor, Mich. A retired teacher has a spot on the Benton Harbor School Board.
The board has filled the vacancy, with the help of the Berrien Regional Education Service Agency. Angelika MacGowan was chosen by a 4-to-1 vote during a meeting Monday night.
According to our reporting partners at the Herald Palladium, there were five candidates for the job.
By Michigan law, the board should have filled the vacant spot within 30 days, but they came to a tie vote. MacGowan replaces Barbara Bell, who left the board in July.
Some say the board failed to do its job by not meeting the deadline.
