Officials to hold news conference on Sailor murder

The Elkhart County Sheriff's Department will hold a news conference Monday afternoon about a request to overturn a 2005 murder conviction.

Helen Sailor was murdered back in 2002 at the Waterfall High rise Apartments in Elkhart. Lana Canen was originally sentenced to 55 years following her 2005 conviction.

Last month during a hearing, Canen claimed evidence from her trial was "faulty."

During that hearing, the detective who finger-printed Canen claimed he no longer believed the fingerprint matched.

A judge in the case is expected to rule on the request soon.
