Goshen To collectors, it’s all about getting that rare item. That’s why Saturday, music enthusiasts will have the chance to find that rare album to add to their collections and it’s all for the 2014 Record Store Day.
Record Store Day is always the third Saturday of April every year. It’s a day designed to release special records to draw people into their neighborhood independent record stores.
The records released are items you won’t see online, only in these stores.
Ignition Music Garage, in Goshen, is one of the independent stores participating. In order for a store to participate they had to sign a pledge saying they wouldn’t pre-sell these records, hold them, sell them online or gouge people price-wise.
The owner, Steve Martin says once you get approved you can see the published list of the special records. He says each store owner can choose from 500 titles. Since they can’t buy them all they work with customers to find out what they want and what is the most popular.
Once the records arrive, Martin puts them all on tables in alphabetical order. They also have signs on the records explaining what they are and how many they have.
Come Saturday, the store will open at 8 a.m. but people will be lined up hours before that. Each person is given and number before they come into the store. To make things smooth and simple, 10 people will be allowed to look at the table at a time and choose what they want to buy. They will do that until everyone gets to see the table.
Martin says on top of records there will be a number of door prizes. He says Shiny Shiny Black will also be playing at 9 a.m.
Ignition Music Garage will stay open until 8 p.m. It is located at 120 E. Washington, Goshen, Indiana.
