Some Mishawaka High School Alumni met again Wednesday for their monthly luncheon, but this luncheon was just not about the class of ‘53 but about recognizing one of their own.

After everyone enjoyed a plate full of food, Mayor Dave wood honored Mishawaka's "Poet Laureate" Ray Chamberlin.

Chamberlin received this honor because his fellow classmates and peers requested it after his many years of writing.

He is not just known for his poetry, Mayor Wood says he is also known for touching many people’s lives through his work and being an outstanding citizen.

Even though Chamberlin says he has more than 200 fans, he was surprised by his honor.

“I felt surprised at first, then kind of humbled and I said look Stella, I don't believe this! She said yeah, they called me I knew about it and I said well, it makes me happy” says Chamberlin.

Chamberlin said he is going to continue to write his poems. He said he normally writes about one a year and sends if off to all of his fans.
