A man, who many said would not walk again after a serious racing accident, made his way back to the Osceola Dragway Sunday on his own two feet.
Step by step, Ryan Gortney made his way to the field at the dragway to thank a med-flight crew for getting him to the hospital just in time on the day of his accident.
The med-flight chopper made a special stop there just to welcome Gortney back.
Back on June 3, Gortney's vehicle had a technical malfunction, which left him with neck and back fractures in 12 different places, a ruptured spleen and severe bruising.
“My wife my kids, all of them believed in me,” said Gortney. From the time about 8 days in when I regained consciousness, and I could actually think, I was basically paralyzed from the chest down. They said ‘Ryan, you may not walk again’. In my heart, I prayed, and I knew I was going to walk out of the hospital.”
Gortney said he plans to return to racing as soon as his doctors sign off on it.
