The chairman of Purdue University's trustees says he would have picked Mitch Daniels as the school's new president even if he had known that Daniels tried to eliminate what Daniels called liberal "propaganda" from teacher education courses at Indiana's public universities while he was governor.
Keith Krach tells The Associated Press that he hadn't seen emails revealing Daniels' effort, and they wouldn't have changed his mind anyway.
The AP reported on the emails this week after they were obtained through a public records request.
The Board of Trustees on Friday approved a $58,000 performance bonus for Daniels, who took over leading Purdue in January.
Daniels has a base salary of $420,000 and was eligible for up to $126,000 in bonuses.
