South Bend’s proposed smoking ban has been postponed “indefinitely,” at the request of the sponsor.
The measure was on the agenda for Monday’s council meeting, and was eligible for a final vote.
Sponsor Valerie Schey tells News Center 16 that she will work behind the scenes to gain more public support and hopes to bring the measure back before the council next year—possibly in February.
She said that her original schedule was “too aggressive,” and that the community needed time to adjust to new state smoking regulations that took effect on July 1st.
