ELKHART COUNTY The prison sentence for a man accused of attempted murder has been doubled because of his ties to a gang.

The Elkhart Truth reports that Jose Alejandro now faces 100 years in prison for shooting 19-year-old Flavio Contreras in May of last year.

The victim says Alejandro and three others took him from his home to a remote part of Elkhart County, shot him five times and left him for dead.

Alejandro is a member of the Latin Kings gang.
