Cystic fibrosis is a chronic lung and digestive disease that affects tens of thousands of Americans.

With the help of medicines and other therapies, children with the disease are living longer, healthier lives.

Each year, more than 125,000 people participate in hundreds of walks across the country to raise funds for cystic fibrosis research and drug development.

A walk planned for this weekend will help raise awareness and funds within the MIchiana community.

Local organizer Laura Clem visited us during our noon show Thursday to talk about the Great Strides Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and why she has a personal reason for being involved.

This weekend's walk is scheduled for May 4 at Beutter Park in Mishawaka. Check-in is at 1 p.m. and the 5K walk will begin at 2 p.m.
