A committee established last week to study vote centers in St. Joseph County may be expanding.
As it was formed, the committee did not include members who specifically represented the cities of South Bend and Mishawaka. The committee was originally constructed to consist of three Republican and three Democratic representatives, as well as two “advisory non-recommending” individuals.
The chairman of the committee told NewsCenter 16 on Tuesday that adding two members representative of South Bend and Mishawaka would make sense because most of the votes are cast in those municipalities.
The chairman said he will make the request to expand the committee further to the county’s election board.
Setting up vote centers would dramatically reduce the number of polling locations in the area. This committee will recommend where exactly those new polling places should be located.
