It was a memorable morning for many of the folks who attended mass at Saint Matthew Cathedral in South Bend.
Their Sunday service included a visit from the pope's ambassador to the United States.
Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano preached the homily to the congregation.
The pews were filled with church-goers eager to hear from the archbishop and take part in his first visit to the diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend.
Vigano is known as the Apostolic Nuncio and is responsible for diplomatic relations between the Vatican and the U.S. government
“I thought the mass today was beautiful. The archbishop's homily was great. You could just feel the joy of the people in welcoming archbishop here because he represents our holy father,” Bishop Kevin Rhoades, Diocese of Fort Wayne South Bend
The archbishop will also be the keynote speaker at a religious conference at Notre Dame Sunday night.
