Sheriff Mike Gayer is warning of an employment scam that was recently advertised in The Herald Journal (Monticello) for a Part-Time Property Manager.

The pseudo employer would correspond via an email address (waynejack@outlook.com). Prospective "employees" will be notified that they have been hired and more information will be requested.

The victims of the scam will then receive a money order in the mail for a high dollar amount with a letter stating to refer to email for instructions. The email will request that the money order be cashed and that a small amount be kept by the "employee" for incidental expenses and the majority of the money be sent to pay for some type of business expense often in a foreign country.

This particular scam used a Lafayette, Indiana address. A search of the phone number provided showed numerous classified ads across the United States advertising for an Assistant Construction Manager. "Wayne Jackson" is used as the name of the employer.
