Scary moments with streets blocked off as police investigated a robbery and bomb threat in downtown Niles earlier Friday.

Authorities say a person handed a note to the teller at Chemical Bank at around 11:30 Friday morning, demanding they hand over money and threatening to blow up the bank if police were called.

A package was found in between the doors at the front of the bank, located on the corner of 5th and Main St. in Niles.

The Berrien County bomb squad secured the building and used x-rays and bomb detecting robots to examine it.

Police are still looking for the suspect, and have little details on a description other than he or she was caucasion, between the ages of 35 and 45 and about 5 foot 5 to 5 foot 7 inches tall.

Witnesses were not sure whether the suspect was a man or a woman, but noted they wore a blue hooded winter coat, black hat, black gloves and sunglasses.

Ten employees were in the bank at the time, but everyone got out safely.
