St. Joseph County Police turned out Sunday for the 2nd Annual "Beat the Heat" go-kart race.

The event raises money for the Law Enforcement Torch Run, which benefits Special Olympics Indiana. The games are being held next weekend in Terre Haute.

Teams made up of officers, businesses and friends got together at Michiana Raceway Park to burn some rubber for a good cause.

Last year drivers raised more than $14,000 for Special Olympics Indiana.

St. Joseph County Police said Sunday night preliminary numbers show the event raised $20,000.
