Elkhart police chase suspect had two other warrants

A man arrested after leading police on a car chase ending in downtown Elkhart was already a wanted man.

According to our reporting partners at the Elkhart Truth, Mendez Holliday, 20, had two other warrants out for his arrest when police

Police were notified of a person driving recklessly on Rue Street Thursday around 4 p.m., and given the car's description.

Officers found Holliday driving west on Lusher Ave. and attempted to stop him. Holliday sped off, leading officers north on Prairie, then north on Benham, before turning onto Harrison St.

Holliday parked the car near the intersection of Harrison and Main Streets before trying to flee on foot.

The Elkhart resident was arrested on preliminary charges of resisting law enforcement and driving while suspended.

Holliday already had one warrant from the Elkhart Superior Court 5 on two counts of possession of marijuana. He also had another warrant from the same court, where he is charged two counts of possession of marijuana and one count of resisting law enforcement.

Holliday's court hearing is scheduled for May 13 at 8:30 a.m.

Formal charges on his arrest following the car chase had not been filed as of Friday afternoon.
