Routine traffic stop leads to car and foot pursuit

A car chase led to a man’s arrest in Dowagiac. A city police officer was patrolling on W. Wayne St., near Hamilton St., when he saw a vehicle driving down Wayne St. into oncoming traffic.

The officer tried stopping the vehicle, but the driver accelerated and lost control of the car. The car veered off the road before getting stuck in someone’s yard.

Two people inside the car immediately took off on foot, running through yards in the neighborhood.

A Silver Creek Township Officer patrolling near Dowagiac helped locate the driver on N. Front St. near Prairie Ronde. The man was arrested for operating while intoxicated and booked at the Cass County Jail.

The passenger has yet to be found.
