Part of the purchase made by Berrien County Commissioners on Thursday will be used to house the county’s new animal control.
The new animal control facility is a $2.3 million construction project. Officiators hope the work will begin this fall, with the move taking place sometime in the summer of 2014.
In addition to being brand new, the future construction promises to do something the current animal control location can’t—accommodate large animals.
“It will be a large animal or farm animal facility we will have a little bit of our outdoor fencing so we can house outside horses cattle anything else,” said Val Grimes of the Berrien Co. Animal Control.
Grimes said it is not uncommon for large animals and livestock to be displaced in accidents on the major highways and roadways that run through the area.
The new county service campus will also house Berrien bus, and the county health department.
