A single-engine plane crashed in Elkhart County Wednesday morning at about 11:24 a.m.

It happened at The Mishawaka Pilot's Club on County Road 20 near Ash Road.

“I was shooting some landings this morning with Roy, and I had one get away from me,” said pilot Steven Lescher of Elkhart. “I was doing a wheel landing and I got, lost rudder control, ended up in the snow over here and it tipped my airplane over when I went into the snow bank.”

Lescher was flying a vintage plane known as a “tail dragger” with two wheels up front, and one under the tail.

Lescher and a co-pilot were not injured.

Lescher had been practicing landings and take-offs at the time. He had already completed two successful landings, and had put his plane down on the pavement for a third time, only to lose control on the runway. “I was on the ground, I was probably doing, when I hit the, maybe 30 miles an hour,” said Lescher.

It happened around 11:30 Wednesday morning at The Mishawaka Pilot's Club on County Road 20 near Ash Road.

The pilot was practicing landings and take-offs when the small crash happened. The vintage two passenger plane was getting ready to take-off and gaining speed when it flipped over just a few yards off the runway.

Two people were seen crawling out of the one engine Cessna, including the pilot Steven Lescher.

“I was shooting some landings this morning,” Lescher recounted, “I had one get away from me, I was doing a wheel landing, and I got, lost rudder control ended up in the snow over here and it tipped my airplane over when I went into the snow bank. So that's about it, no injuries just a lot of lost pride hurt pride.”

Lescher had completed two practice landings and on this, his third attempt overall, he lost control while rolling down the pavement at about 30 miles per hour.
