An area theater is looking to gain community support for renovations to the building.

A task force has put together a plan to revitalize the Goshen Theater downtown.

Organizers have been working on the plan for three years and presented their study and findings to a group of Goshen residents Thursday.

Attendees included the Goshen mayor and city council members, among area residents with a vested interest in the theater's well-being.

Overall, the project could cost some $7 million, but the task force says they want to take it step by step to ensure quality performances.
"Our hope is to make sure the Goshen Theater continues to be the cultural center of downtown Goshen, and provide a great resource for people to gather and see great performances for many years to come. In order to do that, there is some work that needs to be done on the theater. There's some basic maintenance repairs, and upgrades that would need to be done in order to attract the kind of groups to use it to make it financially viable," said Co-Chair of the Goshen Theater task force Gina Leichty.

She added, "In order to make this place continue to be a viable theater, we'll need community support and input and we're open to suggestions and so we certainly welcome people to give us their feedback"

From here, the task force says they will continue gauging community support and putting together a plan for the future.

The Goshen Theater has been around for over a century and is currently where downtown Goshen hosts first Friday events and other small community performances.
