Police in Kosciusko County are continuing to honor the memory of a fellow officer who was killed in the line of duty nearly two decades ago.
Three Warsaw students, Zarek Finley, Gabby Monroy and Jordan Acton, were named this year's recipients of the Phillip Hochstetler Memorial Scholarship.
Detective/Sergeant Phil Hochstetler was pursuing a degree in criminal justice at the time of his death.
So Sheriff Aaron Rovenstine began the scholarship program for area students who are also seeking a career in that field. Hochstetler was shot and killed in June of 1994, while interviewing a burglary suspect.
He had been with the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department for four years, and had previously served on Nappanee's police force for two years. Hochstetler was 32 years old.
