After the tragic shooting at a Martin’s Supermarket in Elkhart on Wednesday night, two area politicians released statements regarding the horrifying situation.
Indiana Gov. Mike Pence stepped forward issuing the following statement.
"I was deeply saddened to learn of the tragic loss of life suffered last night during the shooting at Martin's Supermarket in Elkhart. I commend the Elkhart Police Department for courageously intervening and bringing the incident to a swift conclusion. The first lady and I extend our condolences to the families of the victims and offer our prayers to the entire community during this difficult time."
Second District Congresswoman Jackie Walorski also released a statement in regards to the shooting.
"I am deeply saddened to learn of the horrific incident that occurred at Martin's Supermarket last night in Elkhart. Dean and I extend our thoughts and prayers to the victim's families, friends, and the Elkhart community during this difficult time. I commend the efforts of our local law enforcement whose quick response time undoubtedly prevented more innocent lives from being lost. Please know your service to the Elkhart community is deeply valued and appreciated."
Thursday night, NewsCenter 16 spoke to Michigan Senator John Proos about the shooting.
“It is a terrible situation and one that your heart breaks for the families, for the individuals affected by this, Proos said. “It's important for us as citizens of Michigan to realize that we need the proper resources available to help reach into those communities in mental health.”
