Owner of a U-Pick blueberry farm died after an equipment accident

The owner of a popular U-Pick blueberry farm in La Paz is dead after an equipment accident.

It happened in a field just west of La Paz, near the intersection of west 1A and Oak Road.

Investigators say 61-year-old Rick Pertics of Plymouth was tending to his crops Sunday night when his clothing got caught in the shaft of an irrigation device.

Pertics, the owner of Pertics Blueberry Plantation, told his wife he was going to be working on the equipment overnight. When his family couldn't reach him in the morning, they searched the fields and found his body.

Final autopsy results are pending.
