Remembering the Elkhart shooting one month after tragedy

ELKHART, Ind. A month ago Saturday two innocent women were killed at a local super market.

The shooting took place January 15 at Bristol Street Martin's in Elkhart. A gunman opened fire, killing a 20-year-old employee and 44-year-old shopper.

Officers were in the area and got to the store within minutes, only to find the gunman holding the manager hostage. Police shot and killed him once he took off down an aisle.

Three detectives are working full-time on the case. They expect to finish their investigation by early March.

According to our reporting partners at the Elkhart Truth, the case then goes to the Elkhart County Prosecutor's Office.

After that, the Elkhart Police Department will conduct an internal investigation, as they would for any officer-involved shooting.
