Police are looking into a stabbing and shooting that sent one man to the hospital.
The incident happened Friday, May 9, just after 10:00 p.m. Officers were called to the 59000 block of Elm Road in St. Joseph County in response to shots fired in the area.
While heading to Elm, dispatchers received another call indicating a man had been stabbed at a home along that same block.
When police arrived to the home, they discovered a 52-year-old man with a stab wound to the chest. He was treated at the scene before being taken to Memorial Hospital in South Bend.
The victim was taken into surgery overnight. The man is expected to be released from the hospital Saturday.
Two witnesses at the scene say the stabbing was the result of a disagreement between two men. They also add the 52-year-old man pulled out a gun after he was stabbed and began shooting at the other man as he fled the scene. The man who fled the scene was not shot. He was located early Saturday morning and was questioned by detectives. The man was not arrested.
The St. Joseph County Police say all reports will be forwarded to the St. Joseph County Prosecutors Office for review.
