Every year readers unite around one book as they read, discuss and celebrate literature.
One Book Michiana returns to the St. Joseph Public Library on April 1st. This year’s feature novel is Killer Angels by Michael Shaara.
The novel, based in the Civil War, won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1975.
“There are a lot [of books] about battles, a lot about the details of the Civil War,” Conyers says. “This one gives you the internal thoughts of the key players, like generals and soldiers.”
Shaara researched letters written by these men to formulate the plot.
The St. Joseph Public Library hosts several events surrounding One Book Michiana, including an Edible Book Festival, in which they’ll make foods from the Civil War era.
They also show films and host quilting classes as part of the celebration.
