Although many people have the day off on Labor Day, those who work for the police and fire departments and those who work at the hospital are never completely off duty.
That’s why Olive Garden decided to say thank you to those who rarely get a break from protecting the community. More than 800 restaurants around the nation delivered a hearty meal to first responders.
Those at the Douglas Rd. firehouse received food from the Mishawaka Olive Garden. The volunteers were heading to St. Joseph Regional Hospital next.
They were able to chow down on lasagna, spaghetti and, of course, plenty of breadsticks.
“A lot of people have the holiday off and we just want to include them to show them we do care too,” Randy Salazar, the service manager at Olive Garden. “They're humbled they thank us and we should be thanking them, it's a good thing.”
This is the twelfth straight year that Olive Garden has provided Labor Day lunches. They also serve meals on Veteran’s Day to those who have served our country.
