More than 20 members of a prominent gang are off the streets of South Bend, thanks to the hard work of some of SBPD's finest.
Saint Joseph County prosecutor Michael Dvorak made special commendation of the department Wednesday, along with five individual officers, for their work in bringing 21 members of the Cash Out Boys gang to justice.
The officers reviewed unsolved cases more than year old to connect the dots and bring cases against individual gang members.
Dvorak says the officers deserve recognition for the countless hours they logged on the cases.
"Many times, police officers do not receive the commendations they so richly deserve, for keeping the peace and solving crimes sometimes under great personal danger,” said Dvorak. “On behalf of the St Joseph County Prosecutors' Office, I want to thank every officer for the work they did on these cases."
Police have connected the Cash Out Boys to more than 100 assault cases, 50 burglaries, 40 narcotics violations and numerous other crimes.
