A Winamac police officer heads to court Thursday for stealing cash from a police storage locker.

WKVI reports that Daymond Hartley admitted to taking more than $6,000 from a storage locker last month, while working the night shift. The money had been collected as evidence in a fatal crash involving Jamie Sheets.

Hartley says he took the cash to help pay for a dental procedure for his mother.

He's charged with one count of felony theft.
