Notre Dame purchases former Catholic high school

The University of Notre Dame has bought the building that until the end of the school year housed St. Joseph's High School across the street from campus.

The university isn't planning any major renovations. University spokesman Dennis Brown says the plan for now is to use the building as a swing space, which departments could use while renovations are being done. Brown says the long-term use for the building is still being evaluated.

Not all of the school's property is being sold to Notre Dame. About 16 acres have been sold to Holy Cross College, which is northwest of the old high school.

The school is moving into a new $35 million facility east of the city's downtown.
