NOTRE DAME, Ind. - He is 97 years young today, so NewsCenter 16 would like to wish a big happy birthday to Notre Dame's Father Theodore Hesburgh.
Father Ted as students know him, is Notre Dame's longest running president, having served in that capacity for 35 years.
He stepped down in 1987, but is still considered one of the most influential figures in higher education.
Father Hesburgh was the first person from higher education to be awarded the Congressional Gold Medal.
