Notre Dame's Achonwa staying Indiana; picked 9th overall in WNBA Draft

Notre Dame star Natalie Achonwa may be from Canada, but she'll remain in Indiana for the foreseeable future.

The Indiana Fever selected Achonwa with the 9th overall pick in the WNBA Draft Monday night, despite the fact that the Irish senior will miss the entire 2014 season with a torn ACL.

Achonwa tore her ACL in Notre Dame's Elite 8 win over Baylor two weeks ago. She'll have surgery this week.

Her Notre Dame teammate Kayla McBride went 3rd overall to the San Antonio Stars.

Achonwa and McBride, along with fellow senior Ariel Braker, led Notre Dame to Four Final Fours in their four seasons, including three trips to the national title game.
