South Bend, Ind. As you get ready for this year's tailgates and touchdowns, don't forget to familiarize yourself with new traffic patterns.
A busy summer of road work has left many areas near campus re-configured and designed.
But Notre Dame is trying to help fans navigate the changes by posting maps online, so they can figure out the quickest way to get to the stadium on game day.
"With some of the changes in the roadways that have been opened around campus, as well as some of the closing roads south of campus,we just remind motorists to turn off G.P.S, follow the directions of law enforcement, and fans will have an experience," said Phillip Johnson of the University of Notre Dame Security Police, "We ask they bring patience with them to the game, we think the trip will go much smoother."
Among those changes is the new Douglas Road, which is now four lanes and stretches from Juniper to State Road 933, where it connects to the entrance ramp to the Indiana Toll Road.
The entire stretch is lined with walking and biking paths, along with two new roundabouts, which will each be staffed with at least three to four officers to direct cars and avoid confusion.
"We've opened a new Douglas Road and we're excited about the opportunity to connect at exit 77 to our parking lots on the north end of campus: White Field north and south and so we think that's going to be a great improvement," Johnson added.
Other areas to look out for is the new traffic pattern around five points where officers should be stationed to direct drivers.
There are also several road closings to take note of: South Bend Ave. between Notre Dame Ave. and Frances Ave. is closed, as is Eddy St. between S.R. 23 and Howard St.
